At the conclusion of its debut season in BSL, the St. Louis Cure will pick its Most Valuable Player. That player will earn the "Bronze Boot." The award is in memory of the historic Bronze Boot Match, one of St. Louis soccer history's best traditions. The Bronze Boot Match used to be played annually, pitting St. Louis University vs. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. At its peak, the Bronze Boot Match used to draw huge crowds. The rivalry eventually was moved to Busch Stadium to allow for the massive throngs of fans who would attend the match. When SIU-Edwardsville dropped from Division 1 to Division 2, the annual match was abandoned. Cure GM/Coach Kirk Lodes, "One of my fondest soccer memories is attending the Bronze Boot Match at Busch Stadium as a kid. I think its important to acknowledge and pay homage to the rich history of soccer in St. Louis. By awarding our Most Valuable Player the "Bronze Boot", the Cure hopes to link St. Louis' soccer roots with the current team."
